Best thing I did for myself with gaming is giving up this mindset. I used to force myself to do this and quit on a lot of games I probably would have otherwise enjoyed. I enjoy games much more now by just looking up the thing that's bothering the hell out of me and keeping me from progressing.

Sounds like you went to one of the schools in the article. If they treat their degrees as measly job door stops, then of course they aren't gonna give a shit if the students actually learn anything.
