Lost in art

Generally, high-quality pieces would have been made by artisans (and thus usually custom), not factory-made. The high demand meant that the skills to make these pieces were more commonly pursued by woodworkers, thus making a larger labor pool (and so, cheaper labor), but the technology available and higher price of resources means that it would have required more expense in the form of materials and more man-hours to create the product.

The Trans Agenda is truly terrifying 😭

Imagining of gladiatorial combat in the Roman Empire

You may also find it interesting that there was a 'special' match-up (the Romans had many, but we know the details of only a few) that was relatively common where one (expert) retarius would be on a raised platform, and have to fend off two heavier gladiators from coming up two sets of stairs.

It was considered to be a balanced (and exciting) match, if the retiarius was a master!

Extremely poor pre-modern utilization of labor in peacetime meant that the gain of war could be much greater than the expense of it, tbf.

Such is distinctly not the case nowadays.

Dad: "What makes you think he's worth 20$!? I don't even have 10$! Fine, here's the 5$ you asked for!"

Funny how that is. Like accepting that it's better to get sick today than in 1000 AD; but with the dual caveats that further improvement is still needed, and that it's better to not get sick at all, lmao.

Even just starting large-scale SOF raids without intention of retaking Crimea immediately would be a significant game-changer.

Man, this is a war in which artillery ammunition has seen severe supply shortages, not delivery shortages.

Everything has a cost.
