Q: I subscribed to a community on another instance, why it is all empty here? / I clicked a link to a community, why I got 404?

A: This was answered here:

It will fetch the first 20 posts when the community is first searched from your instance (but no votes, comments etc). Once any local user subscribes to the community, all new posts/comments/votes etc will be delivered to your instance. Old items will only be fetched on demand (eg if you search them, or if they are referenced by a new item).

Old comments and posts in a remote community should start appearing after subscribing, and you can try speeding it up by putting their URLs into Sopuli's search bar.

Q: Why I can't see a community X from instance Y from here?

A: Put the community's name into the search bar (community@instance.tld) or paste the whole URL there. Change the search's type to Communities. The community should be found from search results.

Q: What kind of server is Sopuli running on?

A: Sopuli is running on Hetzner's dedicated server located in Germany. The specs are 8-core processor, 64 GB of RAM and 512 GB of hard drive space.

Q: Do you accept donations?

A: Currently hosting Sopuli costs me ~30 € per month so it's mere pocket change. For anyone interested in supporting, I set up a Patreon profile.

Q: Why was my registration rejected?

A: The application was blank (no need to write a mini essay) or you had an inappropriate username (something racist or like admin@sopuli.xyz)

Q: I subscribed a remote community, what does "subscription pending" mean?

A: Most likely the remote instance doesn't respond or subscribing takes longer. Try to subscribe again.

Q: I registered but didn't get the verification email. Can verification be done otherwise?

A: Sure thing! Contact me and I will do it. Additional information

Q: Does Sopuli federate with Threads?

A: No.

Q: Does Sopuli allow bot accounts?

A: Whether a bot is allowed on Sopuli depends on the bot’s purpose on a case-by-case basis. Slide into my DMs and we can have a talk.

Q: Where I can find information in case Sopuli is down?

A: You can find such information from our Matrix space or following me on Mastodon.

Q: Why there is no feature X?

A: That question can be asked from Lemmy's developers. Make a feature request at their GitHub. "I'm not the one who cooks food, but the one who eats it."

Q: Will Sopuli migrate to some other software like Kbin or PieFed?

A: No. This was founded as a Lemmy instance and will stay that way for the time being.

K: Tilasin toisella instanssilla olevan yhteisön, miksi se näyttää täällä tyhjältä? / Klikkasin linkkiä toisella instanssilla olevaan yhteisöön, miksi tuli 404?

V: Tähän on vastattu täällä:

20 ensimmäistä viestiä noudetaan kun yhteisöä haetaan instanssiltasi ensimmäistä kertaa (pl. kommentit, annetut äänet jne). Kun yksikin paikallinen käyttäjä tilaa yhteisön, kaikki uudet viestit/kommentit/äänet jne välitetään instanssillesi. Vanhemmat viestit noudetaan vain tarpeen mukaan (esim. kun haet niitä, tai uusi viesti viittaa niihin).

Toisaalla olevan yhteisön viestien ja kommenttien tulisi ilmestyä tilauksen jälkeen, ja voit yrittää nopeuttaa sitä laittamalla niiden URLit Sopulin hakupalkkiin.

K: Miksi yhteisö X instanssilta Y ei näy täällä?

V: Laita yhteisön nimi (yhteisö@domain.tld) hakupalkkiin tai laita koko URL sinne. Vaihda myös haun tyypiksi Yhteisöt. Yhteisön pitäisi löytyä hakutuloksista.

K: Millaisella palvelimella Sopuli pyörii?

V: Sopuli pyörii Hetznerin Saksassa sijaitsevalla dedikoidulla palvelimella. Siinä on 8-ytiminen prosessori, 64 gigatavua keskusmuistia ja 512 gigatavua levytilaa.

K: Otatteko vastaan tukea?

V: Tällä hetkellä Sopulin pyörittäminen maksaa minulle ~38€/kk, mikä on pelkkää taskurahaa. Siitä huolimatta tein tuesta kiinnostuneille Patreon-profiilin.

K: Miksi rekisteröitymiseni hylättiin?

V: Joko hakemuksesi oli tyhjä (ei tarvita mitään miniesseetä) tai käyttäjänimi oli sopimaton (esim. jotain rasistista tai admin@sopuli.xyz).

K: Tilasin toisaalla olevan yhteisön, mitä "tilaus vireillä" tarkoittaa?

V: Todennäköisesti instanssi ei vastaa tai tilaamisessa kestää. Koeta tilata yhteisö uudestaan.

K: Rekisteröidyin käyttäjäksi mutten saanut vahvistussähköpostia. Voiko vahvistuksen tehdä muuten?"

K: Federoituuko Sopuli Threadsin kanssa?

V: Ei.

K: Salliitaanko botit Sopulissa?

V: Bottien salliminen Sopulissa riippuu tapauskohtaisesti. Lähetä minulle siis yksityisviestiä ja keskustelemme asiasta.

K: Mistä löydän tietoa jos Sopuli on alhaalla?

V: Jos Sopuli on alhaalla, lisätietoja löytää Matrix-tilasta tai seuraamalla minua Mastodonissa.

K: Miksi tässä ei ole toimintoa X?

V: Tätä kannattaa kysyä Lemmyn kehittäjiltä ja tehdä ehdotus toiminnosta GitHubissa. "En ole ruoan laittaja vaan ruoan syöjä."

K: Siirtyykö Sopuli käyttämään jotain muuta ohjelmistoa kuten Kbiniä tai PieFediä?

V: Ei. Sopuli perustettiin Lemmy-instanssina ja sellaisena se myös pysyy.
