Hello. Welcome to the Political Optimism community. I'm writing this post to set some posting guidelines for what kind of content is appropriate for this community.
We're a community that wants to stay focused on the reality of our current situation, but keep steady and celebrate the victories, even small ones, without putting our heads into the sand or spiraling into negativity.
This community will mostly revolve around US politics, but optimistic stories from around the world are also welcome. Examples could be stories about Reform UK suffering political losses, or stories about a country stepping up to help climate change.
Please use a flair for every post made in this community. The flairs available are as follows:
- [Optimistic Post] For any thread about good news, events, or even just a pep talk.
- [Optimistic Video] Similar to Optimistic Post, but for videos
- [Seeking Optimism] For anyone concerned about an event and wants someone to find the silver lining, or show how it's not as terrible as it at first seems.
There are some rules for what counts as "optimistic." This community has a specific purpose of informing without sensationalizing, and discussions about what can be done when it seems like the worst has happened. Posts and comments straying too far from the community's purpose will be moderated swiftly.
Here are the rules:
- This is a pro-DEMOCRATIC community, not in the sense of the Democratic party, but in the sense of democracy itself. Accelerationism, both sides-ism, and fatalism is NOT welcome.
- This is NOT a leopards ate my face community, nor a FAFO community, if you want to celebrate the misfortune of MAGA voters, that should be posted in another community.
- We do NOT celebrate physical harm or violence towards any person or official, or anyone close to them, no matter how terrible these people are.
- What's more appropriate would be celebrating the crushing defeat and embarrassment of a politician. A rich person's money-making scheme blowing up in their face. Or reports on the low morale within ICE, in Trump's administration, the Heritage Foundation, etc.
- Or, alternatively, you can celebrate the retirement and replacement of an old blue dog Democrat with a younger, more progressive democrat.
- Any kind of anti-American sentiment is strictly prohibited. "Dumb Americans," "shithole country," etc.
I hope this community can provide an outlet for those who are anxious about the current situation, but still want remain informed about what's going on. Descending into negativity, "doomerism," and fatalism only helps the fascists in power. Strength and courage comes from facing reality head on and headstrong, with no illusions. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
